Furniture and other items from Michael Jackson’s final home sold at auction for nearly $1 million, the Associated Press reports. More than 500 of the late King of Pop’s possessions were for sale, from original works of art to napkin rings and a tissue box cover.
A rooster chalkboard where Jackson’s children wrote, “I (heart) Daddy. SMILE, it’s for free,” sold for $5,000, according to the auction catalog, more than eight times its estimated value. An armoire (seen above) where Jackson had written a message, presumably about his comeback tour, “TRAIN, perfection, March April. FULL OUT May, sold for $18,750.
The only items to fetch more money than the armoire where paintings by Adelsteen Normann ($46,875), Carl Johan Neumann ($40,625), Maurice Utrillo ($34,375) and Henri Emilien Rousseau ($23,750).
The items, sold by Julien’s Auctions, were from the Los Angeles residence where Jackson died in June 2009. The bed the singer died in was originally for sale, but was removed at Jackson’s estate’s request.
